Exercises: In this case we are talking about mirror image exercises. These exercises are completely different from the exercises done in the gym and most rehabilitation exercises. As previously mentioned these exercises are designed to help restore proper alignment of the spine. It does this by affecting the muscles themselves and the slower nerve receptors. Using the example of forward head posture, the first exercise might be the act of pulling head backward to the reverse (or mirror image) of the improper posture for a given number of repetitions. We may increase the level of difficulty through the use of tubing exercises.

Note: It is important to receive instruction on the implementation of these exercises as most people perform them incorrectly, even after several instruction sessions.

Adjustments: Here we refer to two types of adjustments. The first type is the traditional chiropractic adjustment. During this adjustment the chiropractor helps to restore motion to joints, decrease pain, increase mobility, and help remove the waste products from injury. In this office the Doctor can use his hands, a specialized table, a specialized electronic adjusting instrument, or any combination thereof. (Dr. Hinck also adjusts hands, feet knees etc.) The other type of adjustment is what we term the mirror image adjustment. Using the above example of forward head posture the Dr. could have the patient standing with their head pulled back in the “mirror image” and use the electronic adjusting instrument on a gentle setting to affect the faster nerve receptors. This is like “re-writing the software” of your nervous system to train it to balance your posture. The Dr. can also use a number of other approaches to retrain your posture.

Traction: This is a key component that most chiropractic techniques lack. The idea is to put the spine into the “mirror image” of its improper alignment to allow the soft tissues we spoke of in the “how can it help” section to remold to a more normal length. In fact, because the word adjustment denotes a move toward normal, traction can be thought of as an adjustment held over time. There are many types of traction. Your Dr. will determine which type is best for you.

Rehabilitation: Sometimes injuries take place that require a little something more. In fact, if not rehabilitated properly, these injuries can get worse over time. For this reason Dr. Hinck also offers rehabilitation services in his office. He uses a proprietary software program called Phases Rehab, as well as knowledge and experience as an Exercise Physiologist, Exercise Science Specialist, and multiple past and present personal training certifications, to make sure that you receive the program that is right for you.

Housecalls: Dr. Hinck is now offering housecall service to his patients. He will travel to homes and businesses, as needed, to provide care to those in need of relief when they can not make it into the office. Discounts are available for groups adjusted at the same visit. Call for details.
